Windows XP Internet Configuration

Click on Start button, go to Control Panel and then double click  Printer and Other Hardware.

Double-click on Phone and Modem Options.

Click on the Modem tab at the top of the window then click on the Add button.

Although Windows XP has the ability to automatically detect and install your modem, it sometimes doesn't detect the correct make and model.  Put a check in the box before Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list and click on Next button.

On this screen, select your modem manufacturer and model  from the lists.  If your modem does not show up on the lists  you should have the driver disk that came with your modem vendor then press the Have Disk button. Insert the disk that contains the driver for your modem into your computer and select that disk drive. If the driver is on a floppy disk then select the A:\ drive. If it is on a CD-ROM then you probably want to select the D:\ drive or your CD-ROM drive.

Click OK after you selected the correct drive that contains the modem driver then click on Next. A driver is a file that tells your computer how to communicate with a piece of hardware like a modem or printer. The modem driver will end with the .inf file extension. You might have to look inside the subfolders of the disk to find the driver. If you have problems finding the location of the driver then please check the manual that came with the modem.

Select the port where your modem is connected to and then click on Next button. If you are not sure which port to select then look at the back of your computer and you should see either the number 1 or the number 2 above the port. If you are still not sure then refer to your computer manual.

Then you are finished setting up your modem. Click on the Finish button to exit.
