Demilitarized Zone
Virtual Private Network
Firewall
Limits access to the private network and resources to authorize users, thereby protecting proprietary applications and confidential information.
Antivirus
A virus is malicious software that can destroy or alter important and critical data. Once a computer is infected with virus malicious software could automatically be installed. Virus can spread through email, network, and Internet.
Antivirus protects the network from external virus attacks, preventing system crashes and operational inefficiencies. It is system that checks if the data passing through the network has virus.
Antispam
Spam is the term used to describe unsolicited email. It is usually used to promote products, services, or websites. Antispam helps prevent occurrence of unwanted spam memory in email services, preventing unwanted memory and storage usage.
Intrusion Detection and Prevention
Identifies and prevents security threats from hackers / malicious users / unauthorized persons, ensuring that confidential company information is secure.
Content Filtering A system that limits users’ access to unauthorized websites and instant messengers.
Demilitarized Zone Serves as buffer area between an organization’s internal network and an external network. It is usually used for connecting servers that need to be accessed from outside like public web servers and mail servers.
Virtual Private Network
A system that establishes a secure and high-performance network over our own private network or over the Internet. It uses encryptions to hide classified information.

1. What is Sentinel?
Sentinel is a solution that incorporates unified threat management (UTM) equipment, remote management and monthly reports to provide a managed security platform to corporate networks. It can provide firewall, antivirus, antispam, content filtering, intrusion prevention, demilitarized zones and virtual private networks.
2. What is Unified Threat Management (UTM)?
Unified Threat Management is a system where the security hardware can do multiple security functions including firewall, antivirus, antispam, content filtering, intrusion prevention, demilitarized zones and virtual private networks.
3. What is a firewall (FW)?
A firewall is a system that controls access to and from the client’s network. It can allow or deny access going into the network, and coming from the network. It can be either be hardware-based or software-based.
4. What is an antivirus (AV)?
An antivirus is a system that checks if data that is passing through it has virus. It identifies the virus by looking at virus signatures, or patterns, that it can detect.
5. What is a virus?
A virus is malicious software that can destroy or alter important data. It can also install malicious software on the infected computer and can make it spread itself via email or through network and the Internet.
6. What is antispam (AS)?
An antispam system is a system that checks if data that is passing through contains spam email. It identifies the spam by looking at spam signatures, or patterns, that it can detect.
7. What is spam?
Spam is the term used to describe unsolicited email. They usually promote products, services or websites
8. What is content filtering?
Content filtering is a system that controls what web sites or destinations on the Internet is accessible to internal users.
9. What is an intrusion prevention system (IPS)?
Intrusion is how hackers try to enter a network and disable the computers in the network. Intrusion prevention systems help protect client’s network by detecting malicious access into the network and denying the intrusion.
10. What is a demilitarized zone (DMZ)?
A firewall can restrict access into the network. However, some clients may want to implement computers that should be accessible from outside the network. This is the demilitarized zone – a portion of the network that allows outside users to access the computers in it. Usually, public web servers and mail servers are part of the DMZ.
11. What is a virtual private network (VPN)?
A virtual private network is a system that secures communication between computers on the Internet. Any person who tries to read the data will only get meaningless garbage, while the intended recipient will get meaningful information. VPNs use encryption to hide information.
VPNs can be implemented via hardware or software. Hardware VPNs need another security equipment, while software VPNs only need to install software into the computers in order to secure communications.
12. What is the UTM equipment that is bundled with Sentinel?
Sentinel is complete managed security solution. It is a hardware-independent service. Currently, we include Fortinet’s award-winning Fortigate series of UTM equipment with FortiOS in Sentinel. Fortinet is one of the, if not the, world’s leading UTM equipment vendors and leads the world in market share of UTM equipment.
13. Can a client buy the equipment from Prime Communications?
No; Sentinel is a managed security service and is not an equipment sale Prime Communications offers a complete solution that includes managing the UTM equipment and generating monthly reports. Report analysis and quarterly consultation are add-ons included in the higher packages.
14. Won’t Prime Communications displace the I.T. manager or I.T. personnel?
No, in fact, Sentinel will complement the work of the I.T. group of the client. Since Prime Communications will cover the day-to-day operations of Sentinel, it gives the I.T. personnel more time to focus on their company’s core business.
Prime Communications will provide the I.T. manager with the monthly reports and the I.T. manager will in turn report to their own management. The role of Sentinel is to report the activities on a monthly basis to the I.T. manager.
15. What is the value proposition of Sentinel?
Sentinel is a service and not just a matter of selling equipment. When a supplier sells equipment, management of the equipment is not included, or is charged an hourly rate. Additionally, from the second year onwards, the client has to purchase annual updates, licenses and hardware return policies in order to enjoy continuous and updated protection.
Sentinel is a managed service that frees up the I.T. manager from these concerns. The service includes a replacement warranty for the equipment, and licenses and updates are continuous as long as the client still subscribes to Sentinel.
16. What are the other competing products of Sentinel?
Sentinel is a unique solution that is unmatched in the market. It is the only managed security service from a service provider.
Competitors are systems integrators (SIs) who will be offer security equipment as a sale and not as a service. Ownership of the equipment, and therefore all responsibilities related to it, is with the client. The client buys the equipment outright, which is a big CAPEX investment.
In contrast, Sentinel is a subscription service. The client does not buy equipment but buys a managed security service. Ownership of the equipment remains with Prime Communications and it is the responsibility of Prime Communications to ensure that the service delivers as expected to the client.
17. What are the variants or kinds of Sentinel?
Sentinel is divided into four variants: Sentinel Lite, Sentinel Pro, Sentinel Enterprise and Sentinel Customized. The variants cater to different company sizes and security requirements. Each variant addresses different needs.
Sentinel Lite is suited for small- to medium-sized offices whose needs include basic firewall, antivirus, antispam and restriction of web sites.
Sentinel Pro is suited for small- to medium-sized offices whose needs may include running their own public servers and thus have a need for a DMZ and IPS.
Sentinel Enterprise is geared towards medium to large companies with branches or mobile users utilizing VPNs to connect to the head office.
Sentinel Customized targets large companies and multinational whose security needs are beyond standard configurations.
18. What does the monthly report include?
The monthly report will show statistics on how many illegal accesses were denied and how many intrusions were detected and blocked. For Sentinel Pro and higher packages, an analysis of the report is included. |
